What's On
TRANSGRESSION Curated by Michael Carolan. Presented by The Second Collective.
Featuring: Beka Hannah, Caitlin Telford, Jess Sutton, Jordan Hoffman, Kate Walsh, Leonie Connellan, Mary Hackett, Michael Carolan, Paul Dew and Tul Suwannakit.
‘Transgression’ takes an interesting approach on the act of art-making. The 10 exhibiting artists have been instructed to “break the rules” of conventional art and pack Off the Kerb with a collection of artworks that contradict, and clash with one another.
“The result is an at-times jarring and discordant disharmony, creating a level of uneasiness flowing through the works. Perhaps, to some viewers, the works in this exhibition are just not what, nor where, they ‘should’ be. However, this awkwardness creates an edgy dynamism throughout the spaces it inhabits. The cohesion lies in the shared act of transgression…” - Michael Carolan
Creating artwork that transgresses from the conventional rules and principals of art is hard. Creating an exciting and thought provoking exhibition out of those artworks is even harder but, at Off the Kerb, these 10 artists have achieved this.
‘Transgression’ is an exhibition that should not be missed.
